Joe Van Haecke

With an unshakable belief that anyone can learn and succeed with this art form, Joe’s mission is to bring improvisation to businesses, colleges, and the health profession. Starting off in Kansas City’s Comedy City, Joe has spent the past two decades honing his craft by studying with Comedy Sportz, Second City, and the IO Theater in Chicago. As one of the founders of Comedy XPeriment, Des Moines’ longest running improv troupe, Joe has explored a variety of improv formats. During my 20 years of coaching and performing improv, I’ve seen both teens and adults make complete transformations into strong, independent, and confident leaders. I believe the skills we develop through improvisation apply not only to performance but also to education, medical, and business environments. Improvisation strengthens everyone. My job is to help leaders create strong leaders. Joe provides coaching, consulting, and workshops that utilize the tools and skills of improvisation. His workshops break down communication barriers in order to create a sense of play in an engaging learning environment. Connect with Joe to discuss how a workshop or series of workshops can help your environment use improvisation.

Session Summary

As we return to work, we'll need to relearn how we interact with each other again. Additionally, we'll have the opportunity of learning what the new "office" looks like. We need a workforce that can adapt to change while being innovative, communicative, and collaborative. Applied improvisation, using the tenants of improv, provides the tools and skills managers and team members need to listen, take risk, and communicate effectively. Become comfortable in the uncomfortable so we can be honest, authentic, and empathetic.

Session Takeaways

After the session, attendees will be able to:

• Describe an applied improv workshop

• Accept failure as a step to success

• Build strong connections between current and new peers
