During this workshop Drake University Doctoral Student Virginia Corbett will discuss the research she has done on the Socio-Cognitive Influence of Mindset and Temperament on Motivation to Engage in Mobile Learning for Professional Development.

Professional development is a field that is gaining attention and prominence in organizational strategy as the Digital Age grows more complex. Combined with greater complexity is the increasing size of the U.S. workforce. As jobs have been added to the economy, companies have struggled to maintain high-qualitytraining and development capacity, while maintaining a level investment-per-employee.

Mobile learning offers the opportunity to provide scalable learning solutions for professional development. However, little research has focused on mobile learning within non-academic environments. Thus, the parameters surrounding user acceptance of mobile learning technologies for professional development are unknown.

Participants will learn about the various technology acceptance models in use to determine learner acceptance. Further, a review of how changing societal dynamics and emerging technologies have made certain models obsolete. Participants can expect to leave the presentation with a greater understanding of the socio-cognitive influences at work in motivation to engage in mobile learning.
